This video has been circling the internet as much as any other soccer video I've probably ever seen. And for good reason. Because this is flat out embarrassing! They always say, "Pride comes before a downfall", or "Don't count your chickens before they hatch" but whatever it is this just happened.
Brooks Peck a writer for yahoo's blog recapped the final event saying this: "In a tense match between Maghreb Fez and FAR Rabat to decide who reaches the quarterfinals of Morocco's Coupe du Trone, they had to go to a penalty shootout to decide a winner. During that shootout, FAR goalkeeper Khalid Askri thought he came up with a big stop and immediately began to celebrate his triumph, turning his back on the goal, patting his chest and kissing his badge in an abundance of pride and dripping self-confidence."
But what happened next was literally a once in a lifetime occurrence. While pounding his chest at his amazing penalty shot he failed to see the wicked backspin his stop created. So as he was basking in his own glory, the ball slowly trickled in over the line into the goal. If that happens the rules state the ball is still moving from it's original kick and therefore is not considered a stop until the ball is deemed dead or at least outside of the goal line.
When I saw this all I could really say was, "Wow! I would hate to be that guy." Well I guess the quote I was going for was, "It ain't over til it's over."
